Charles Francis Annesley Voysey - Alexander Morton & Co - A large hand woven wool carpet circa 1900 to 1905, the central medallion with a repeat stylised foliate motif with flower head and leaves with interwoven scrolls to a deep salmon ground all within a deep border of a further stylised bell form flowers over turquoise ground within further slender borders, approximate size 696cm x 684cm Provenance The carpet was the centrepiece of The Birmingham Law Library in Temple Street from 1934 onwards. The library was formally opened by Lord Sankey, the Lord Chancellor, on the 18th January 1934. The President of The Birmingham Law Society for the year 1933-1934 was George Arthur Charles Pettitt. The Society's Minute Book for that period records in an entry dated 25th October, 1933 (p352 note 937), 'The President stated his honour of being in the Chair during the year in which the new library was to be erected and opened' and gifted 'the carpet which had been chosen for the centre of the main library.'
