Royal Worcester - A 19th Century Aesthetic Japonisme ewer, the main body in celadon green with a gilt and burnt red crane in flight amidst strawberry blossom, the handle formed as a wishbone in a matt gold, all raised to an affixed scroll stand, green printed mark with datecode for 1880, height 24cm There is a strong connection in the design of this ewer to Christopher Dresser. The crane / stork was one of his widely used decorative motifs for Minton as was his favoured celadon ground and the wishbone form handle is similar to those used on teapots designed for both Minton and Benham and Froud.
