A late 19th Century Cree stroud octopus bag, possibly Manitoba or Winnipeg, the brown stroud sewn on each side with dense floral and fruiting vine designs in coloured beads in a palette of green, yellow, pink, blue, red and some metallic, with eight shaped fronds terminating in blue, white and black faceted bead pendant loops, brown cotton lining, the whole with a double beaded white border, length 41cm x width 25cm (at widest point), S/D. Provenance: Believed to have been a gift to the Bishop of Winnipeg, possibly Robert Machray (1831 - 1904).
