A silver medal in Stourbridge

Having recently hosted the Commonwealth Games this Summer the West Midlands is now synonymous with the world of athletics and multi-sport events. 

Found recently in a private estate in the West Midlands, is a 1938 Sydney Empire (Commonwealth) Games silver medal awarded to Dora Gardner for the Ladies High Jump. Dora Kathleen Gardner (6 May 1912 – June 1994) was an English track and field athlete who competed for Great Britain in the 1948 Olympic Games and captained the Ladies Team at the London Olympics in 1948. The medal is sold with a collection of related items to include a London 1948 Olympic Games competitors medal and cloth badge, various other competition medallions and a photograph album spanning her wonderful high jump career.  

Lot 939 is offered with an estimate of £800-1,200 and is due to be sold in our August sale on 26th August.
