From the Archives to Auction - Moorcroft Pottery Museum Collection

Fieldings Auctioneers are delighted to announce that we have been instructed by W. Moorcroft Ltd to assist with the sale of a small part of their collection of historic works begun by founder William Moorcroft in 1913.

Over the last 100 years Moorcroft has accumulated an extensive collection, covering the story of the factory from William Moorcroft, through Walter Moorcroft to their current talented designers.

Space to display the archive designs, still held in the original Liberty & Co oak cabinets that William Moorcroft originally used at the 1924 British Empire Exhibition in Wembley, remains limited at Moorcroft’s Heritage Visitor Centre. In order to facilitate the arrival of new pieces into their Museum Collections Moorcroft have decided to rationalise their collection by parting with duplicate designs. This will allow them to organise their archive into something that will clearly display the heritage and the story of one of the greatest ceramic companies of not only The Potteries but of the British Isles.  New designs are added to the extensive archive each year and can be seen at the Visitor Centre in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, with entrance free of charge.

This sale offers enthusiasts and collectors of Moorcroft the opportunity to acquire a piece from the company’s own collection. Every piece (where possible) bears a unique Moorcroft Museum Collection label and, with estimates ranging from £30 to £1500, this offers a wonderful opportunity to own a piece of ceramic history.

The collection is offered as part of Fieldings Auctioneers Decades of Design sale. For further information please contact Alison Snowdon on 01384 444140 or alison@fieldingsauctioneers.co.uk
