Opal Jewellery at Auction: Fire Opals and Black Opals at Fieldings

Opals, with their kaleidoscopic play-of-colour, have long been cherished as symbols of hope and purity. Unlike most gemstones, opals are composed of silica spheres that diffract light, creating a unique internal "fire" that makes no two stones exactly alike. While Australian opals are perhaps the most famous, the Mexican Fire Opal stands apart for its vibrant orange body colour and are often transparent enough to be faceted rather than just cut as cabochons.

Collectors seeking to acquire a piece of beautiful opal jewellery can find exceptional opportunities at the Fieldings upcoming Jewellery, Watches, Silver & Bijouterie Sale on 12th February 2026.

The sale begins at 9:30 am, with public viewing available on Tuesday 10th and Wednesday 11th February 10am -4pm for those wishing to inspect the "fire" of these stones in person.
