From Stourbridge to the World: The Centuries of Glass Auction

The sale celebrates the artistry, innovation and craftsmanship of glassmaking through the centuries, with a particular focus on the exceptional heritage of Stourbridge glass.

There are few places in the world that can rival Stourbridge's contribution to the history of glassmaking. For more than 200 years, the town has been synonymous with quality, craftsmanship and innovation. Home to celebrated makers including Thomas Webb & Sons, Stevens & Williams, Stuart & Sons and Richardson, Stourbridge became internationally renowned for producing some of the finest glass ever created. From beautifully engraved crystal and richly coloured cased glass to intricate intaglio carving and world-famous cameo glass, the region's glassmakers continually pushed artistic and technical boundaries, creating masterpieces that remain highly sought after by collectors today.

We are privileged to be based at the heart of this remarkable glassmaking tradition. Our saleroom is located approximately one mile from where many of these historic glassworks once stood, giving us a unique connection to the industry that shaped Stourbridge and earned it a worldwide reputation for excellence.

Our forthcoming Centuries of Glass Auction features several outstanding highlights that perfectly illustrate the extraordinary skill of Stourbridge's craftsmen. Among the sale's standout lots are Lot 159A - Attributed John Michael (James) O'Fallon, a clear crystal water jug by Thomas Webb & Sons, dating from around 1870; Lot 159, a late 19th-century Thomas Webb & Sons cameo glass plaque attributed to Ludwig Kny; and Lot 659, a magnificent early 20th-century Stevens & Williams scent bottle and stopper by Joshua Hodgetts. Each of these exceptional pieces was created approximately one mile from our saleroom, making them not only remarkable works of art but also enduring symbols of Stourbridge's unrivalled glassmaking heritage.
