Lot 825: Sold for £65 hammer

Estimate £60-£80

A late 19th century boxwood spinning top of stepped circular form inscribed G.Gordon, (possibly General Gordon of Khartoum), height 9.5cm, and a similar spinning top of plumb bob shape, the top inset with ebony and mother of pearl, brass spindle, height 9cm. (2)
Provenance: purchased by the vendors late father in law during the 1960's from the Gordon home in Cheltenham Gloucestershire

Condition report
G Gordon - Believed by the vendor to have once belonged to General Gordon although apart from the painted signature to the side there is no evidence by way of letter to support this, so please make your own assumptions before bidding. No cracks but there is a slight edge dink to the side. Plumb bob spinner is fine , no cracks just some light dents
