A pair of bone candlesticks, each modelled as a lighthouse with simulated brick work and recessed lattice windows below fixed turned sconces and turrets named on the base to both ‘Matinicus Rock Abbie Burgess 1856, height 22.8cm.
NB - Matinicus Rock is located off the coast of Maine, USA.
Abbie Burgess at the age of 17, in a great storm in 1856, kept her mother and her sisters safe while her father was stranded on the mainland and is commemorated for this act of heroism.
