Lot 1173: Sold for £130 hammer

Estimate £150-£200

A 19th Century mahogany bureau bookcase, the later married upper section with architectural pediment over glazed double doors above the fall front enclosing a fitted interior, further fitted below with four cock-beaded drawers over bracket feet, height 206cm, width 79cm and depth 56cm S/D.

Condition report
The finial is missing from the pediment. The upper section has been later 'married' to the bureau base section. There is an infill cheek section to the rear of the right hand side panel that matches up the depth between top and bottom, but the conforming section to the rear of the left hand side is missing. The lock to the bureau has at some point been forced crudely resulting in damage around the lock area. There is some splitting and areas of repair to the hinges of the bureau. The keyhole escutcheon is missing from the central cabinet. Some damage to the moulded detail and the cock-beading in places. One of the brass drop handles is missing. A section of the rear right hand bracket foot is missing. The key is present to the bureau section, but the upper door lock is locked closed and there is no key.
