Lot 1243: Sold for £260 hammer

Estimate £200-£300

A George III style mahogany serpentine chest of three long drawers below a leather inset brushing slide flanked by blind fret canted pilasters, brass foliate drop handles and escutcheons, on bracket feet, by Thomas Clarkson & Sons Wolverhampton, height 86cm x depth 56cm x width 90cm, S/D.

Condition report
Appears to have been re-constructed early 20th Century, utilising some early timber sections from other chests. The top is warped. There is an insert section to the front of the top where a lock plate would have engaged, but as this is now above the brushing slide, it would indicate that the top is from another chest. There are infilled sections to both sides. There is a split to the top of the rear left hand foot. Re-construction of drawers and replacement handles. Two keys are present but the locks are stiff.
