An early 17th Century oak two tier livery cupboard of narrow proportions, the plank top over a carved stylised lunette frieze and projecting cupboard below flanked by carved scroll capital bulbous supports above a long frieze drawer and conforming supports united by an undertier on block feet, exhibition label to reverse later alterations, height 124cm x depth 40cm x length 125cm. Provenance and information provided by the vendor - Labelled exhibited by S Evans in a Windsor loan exhibition of 1881. Samuel Evans was a drawing master at Eton his father William Evans held the previous post founded Evans' college was an established water colourist. The cupboard passed into the Whitcombe family on the marriage of Samuel daughter to Robert Henry whitcombe in 1892 who was the bishop of Colchester 1909-1922 and has remained in the family ever since.
