A George V drawer action vesta case engraved with The Times newspaper emblem and the latin phrase Ictus Meus Utilis Esto (May My Strike Be Useful), London 1926, Goldsmiths and Silversmiths, weight 46.4g, length 6cm. During the 1926 General Strike, male office staff at The Times who swapped their suits for overalls and kept the paper in production, were gifted these boxes as a thank you from grateful employers. Women who did the same, were gifted a powder compact.
