Napoleon Bonaparte interest - A pair of Mid 19th Century oak William IV hall chairs, cartouche' scroll shaped backs each mounted with a carved Union Jack pennant, moulded edge plank seats on turned legs to the front (2) ILLUSTRATED NB -One chair is mounted with a brass plaque, engraved ' Made from the materials of the celebrated ship Bellerophon famous throughout the last war, particularly for the memorable event of affording the asylum to the late Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte' HMS Bellerophon was a 74 gun third rate ship of the Royal Navy and served in the French Revolution and Napoleonic wars, mainly on blockades and escort duties. After a long history of naval engagements Napoleon came aboard the ship that had plagued him for twenty years. Converted to a prison ship in 1815 she was eventually sold and broken up in 1836.
