A set of four mid 20th Century copper and brass Chekpump forecourt petrol measures, for County Council of Durham, by Wragg Brothers Ltd. Essex, the graduated set including two litre, height 23cm, five litre, height 31cm, ten litre, height 40.5cm and twenty litre, height 48cm, all stamped to cap with makers marks. (4)
Footnote :
Wragg Brothers Ltd was established in 1958 and made a range of these petrol measures during the 1960s. Measures of this type were used on forecourts of petrol stations and were used to confirm the accuracy of petrol used for public use in accordance with Her Majesty's standards on weights and measures.
