Lot 1112: Sold for £120 hammer

Estimate £150-£250

A George IV mahogany fall-front bureau, fitted with an arrangement of pigeon holes, eight small drawers and leather book bound compartments flanking the central cabinet, further fitted below with three short and three long cock-beaded and oak-lined drawers flanked by blind fret-carved pilasters and bracket feet, height 104cm, width 113cm and depth 51cm, S/D.

Condition report
The bureau has been restored at some point - the handles have been replaced, it has been repolished and the leather book spines to the internal compartments are later. There is however some splitting to the top and to both sides of the bureau. There is also some splitting across the front edge of the interior along the line of the hinges, where presumably at some point the fall-front has been opened without first pulling out the drawers below and thus putting stress on the hinges. Some scuffs, stains and dents to the interior. Some slight damage to the cock-beading of one of the drawers and to the blind fretwork pilasters.
