Lot 264: Sold for £1,050 hammer

Estimate £600-£800

Clarice Cliff - Latona Eden - A shape 358 vase circa 1930, hand painted with two large sprays of flowers and foliage over a Latona glazed ground beneath black and red banding, hand painted LATONA and Bizarre mark, height 20cm, S/D. NB - This design was originally created as part of the Applique Range. Applique and Latona ran concurrently and it may be that this was an experimental piece. The vase was illustrated in the Fantastic Flowers of Clarice Cliff on Page 103 and at the time noted by Len Griffin as being a unique example.

Condition report
The vase has been drilled to the side of the body and the centre of the base to convert it to a table lamp. This does not touch the mark and there is only a small spot of enamel touched to the decoration. No restoration, chips, or cracks.
