A copper alloy pocket sundial, circa 1500-1700, mounted with a seal matrix engraved with an animal holding a square flag marked with a cross possibly to represent Angus Dei (the lamb of God), inscribed IS to the side of the beast's neck, mounted to a broad flat ring with a slit centre line (part broken) and incised by graduation lines representing the months of the year and an area marked with lines, dots and numerals, a small suspension loop mounted to the reverse, width 4cm. NB - No other examples have been recorded with a seal Matrix. A similar example is held in the private collection of the Dr John Davies collection of the British Sundial Society. Provenance - Found metal detecting in North Yorkshire February 2021 and recorded on the PAS database SWYOR.9104DD. With accompanying detailed paperwork.

Condition report
The divisions, numerals and matrix clearly legible. There is a small break in antiquity to the central band as mentioned above and the ring is also slightly misshaped.
