Lot 17: Sold for £1,500 hammer

Estimate £400-£600

A 19th Century Minton dessert service comprising two tall comports, four low comports and eleven plates, each decorated with a hand painted equestrian scene after John Frederick Hemming with a central roundel, turquoise band and a gilt border edge, several pieces with impressed marks, plate diameter 23.5cm, comport diameter 24cm, S/D. (17)

Condition report
All pieces are rather grubby and dusty, they look to have been stored in newspaper for some time. Two plates ring dead and one has a flaw to the very foot rim which is likely from manufacture. One of the tall comports has two chips to the underside but interestingly rings. There is some rubbing to the gilding in places, commensurate with age. Two of the plates have scratches to the paintwork.
