A 9ct hallmarked study of a race horse and jockey in full stride mounted to a green onyx plinth with applied silver panel engraved with previous winners details 'The Schweppes Gold Trophy', 1376 gm of weighable gold, 24 cm high, London 1965, indistinctly signed ILLUSTRATED. N.B This trophy was awarded to the winner of this grade 3 National Hunt hurdle race open to horses aged four years and older. It was run at Newbury over a distance of about 2 miles and 110 yards (3,319 metres). It was a handicap race and took place each year in February. The event was established in 1963, and the inaugural running took place at Aintree. The race was sponsored by Schweppes, and known as the Schweppes Gold Trophy. This sponsorship continued until 1986, and since then the event has been sponsored by Tote Bookmakers and it is now known as the 'Tote sport Trophy'. Proceeds from the sale of this trophy are to be donated to 'The Wells for Ghana Project' a charity supported by the vendor.
