Two pieces of early 20th Century Mak'Merry Pottery comprising a ginger jar and cover decorated with a green foliate design and a squat cream jug with fruit, berries and foliage with a yellow border edge, both with painted marks Mak'Merry Pottery was painted by the women from the Scottish Women's Rural Institute in the town of MacMerry, East Lothian founded by Catherine Blair. Previously an active Suffragette, she felt that women in rural communities were relatively isolated and needed opportunities to socialise, she also felt that in expressing themselves through painting, it gave them independence and an chance to earn their own money
