Lot 295 : Sold for £1,300 hammer

Estimate £400-£600

A collection of four late 19th Century glass recipe books relating to Richardsons to include a green velum bound example, red bound example and two small black bound examples, each containing hand written pages detailing quantities for various glass types to include iridescent, opalescent, pearl for casing, ruby and white. One book inscribed to the frontispiece 'Arthur A. Hitchin, Brewery St, Wordsley, Nr Stourbridge', the four later annotated H.W.Woodward. N.B - The third Benjamin Richardson, born in 1864 became the last of the family to be involved with the glassworks. His donation of the Richardson Collection of glass to Stourbridge, now incorporated in the Dudley Metropolitan Borough Collections at Broadfield House Glass Museum, provides a major source of information on the company's products. At his death in 1952 many important records and documents were removed from Richardson Hall and burnt. Fortunately some were rescued by Herbert Woodward, the Keeper of Glass at the then Brierley Hill Glass Museum. Ref - British Glass 1800-1914 - Charles R. Hajdamach - Page 122
