A large 19th Century Staffordshire flatback spill vase entitled Band of Hope modelled as a lady holding the hand of a young boy, stood beside a gnarled tree holding an shield emblazoned with a cross, title in gilt to the oval base, height 35.5cm, restored N.B - The Band of Hope was founded in Leeds in 1847 with its title coming from Reverend Jabez Tunnicliffe, a prominent temperance worker. In 1855 the original foundation was formed into a national foundation supporting working class children.
