Percy Wyndham Lewis (1882 - 1957) - A pen and ink Vorticist drawing of three matching soldiers with abstract bodies, monogrammed and dated 1921, mounted in red with contemporary silver frame, 12cm x 15cm, ILLUSTRATED This pen and ink illustration was used as the frontispiece for Sacheverell Sitwell`s Dr Donne and Gargantua; First Canto published by the Favil Press in 1921 to a limited edition of just 101 copies. Sacheverell and Osbert Sitwell were originally great friends of Wyndham Lewis before they fell out in the late 1920`s and he satirised them and Edith in his novel The Apes of God. This drawing was acquired by the current vendor some thirty years ago when it was purchased in a small art shop which briefly flourished in Pimlico in the 1970`s. There is a family link as the Sitwells did live in Carlyle Square just off the Kings Road.
