A late 19th Century Cantonese carved ivory figural puzzle ball chess set, the kings and queens modelled as Chinese royalty, the bishops as courtiers, the knights as mounted horses, the rooks as elephants holding a pennant flag and the pawns as small mounted horses, all standing on intricate pierced balls, one side in natural ivory, the other in stained cochineal red, each figure is mounted on a three tier concentric stand under a glass dome on ball feet, height 32cm.
