JEAN BAPTISTE CARPEAUX (1827-1875) - La Danse, bronze study by the artist for the facade sculpture on the Opera Garnier, Paris signed and dated 1869, no 6, A.A. Hebrard foundry mark, Cire Perdue, height 54cm. Notes: The body of work by Jean Baptiste Carpeaux was reproduced by his own foundry in Paris from 1866. It was only after his death that in order to pay debts, his wife allowed his work to be reproduced. In 1909 the foundry Susse Freres were given the rights to reproduce this work until 1925, when they passed to the A A Hebrard foundry. Exhibited: 'Arnold Haskell Collection of Sculptures and related Drawings', City Art Gallery, Bristol in 1963, Sculptures -exhibit no. 4.
