After a design by A E Jones - An Arts and Crafts hallmarked silver 'Fox and Grapes' quaich, the planished circular body with pierced grape vine border below two cast handles, each depicting a fox beneath a grape vine, all to circular foot, the underside stamped with retailers mark, Connell, 83 Cheapside, and numbered 491, weight 4.2 oz, Birmingham 1923, makers mark LCC The image is taken from Aesops Fable numbered 15 in the Perry Index. ''Driven by hunger, a fox tried to reach some grapes hanging high on the vine but was unable to, although he leaped with all his strength. As he went away, the fox remarked, 'Oh, you aren't even ripe yet! I don't need any sour grapes''.
