Olive F Openshaw - A 1930s ink and watercolour book illustration depicting a male and female figure in period costume surrounded by flowers and foliage, signed, pencil dated 10th November 1936 and annotated 'Book decoration to be reproduced by line-block. Illustrating the sonnet entitled I spent all my hours in a Shady Old Grove, written by Charles II, framed, 26.5cm x 23cm After studing at the Manchester Municipal School of Art in the 1920s, Openshaw is known for illustrating various children's books from the 1930s to 1950s including Mary Mouse by Enid Blyton and stories by Cynthia, Lady Asquith. She also re-illustrated Jean de Brunhoff's Babar series which had been rewritten by Enid Blyton.
