A late 19th Century French marble bust of Marguerite wearing a ruff and a cross with plaited hair, on green serpentine base, together with an associated cylindrical pedestal, height 187cm. Marguerite was the lover of Faust and a classic subject for nineteenth century sculptors also an inspiration for the operas by Gounod and Berlioz and for many other French and Italian artists.
