A late 19th Century oval ceremonial shield embossed and chased on gilt metal depicting a battle scene with soldiers on horseback in combat outside a besieged citadel and camp, modelled after the shield belonging to Charles IX (1550-1574) made by the goldsmith Pierre Redon.c.1572 in the Musée du Louvre, Paris, approximate height 57cm, S/D.
