Lot 552: Sold for £1,550 hammer

Estimate £1,000-£1,500

CECIL ALDIN (1860-1935) - 'Cracker the Silly Ass', pencil drawing heightened with white, signed with monogram, framed, 24cm x 29cm.

Provenance: Burlington Gallery, London
*The charismatic bull terrier Cracker and his friend Micky, an enormous Irish wolfhound, provided a constant source of inspiration for Aldin. Their competition to be 'top dog' and thus earn the favoured position on the artist's settee captured the public imagination to such a degree that The Times published the dog's obituary on his passing.
