Lot 252a: Sold for £100 hammer

Estimate £100-£150

An early 20th Century mahogany inlaid games compendium with a harlequin assortment of playing pieces, the hinged cover revealing boxwood chess set, draughts set, cribbage board, reversible draughts and Escalado board, escalado pieces, etc, S/D.

Condition report
The lid of the box is split just above the hinge line and to the front left hand corner. The playing contents pieces are a harlequin mix, although the combination playing board, dice cup and whist marker appear to be contemporary to the box. There is a mixture of draughts pieces and there are some chips in places to some of the pieces. There is a full set of chess pieces and the bases appear to have been re-felted. The four escalado horse figures are later and have been re-painted. The tiddlywinks / markers are later, as are the cribbage board, transfer printed dominoes and playing cards. There is some wear to the combination playing board and also some foxing spots and paint spots to the escalado / grand race game board.
