A 19th Century taxidermy study of a 'Feejee' or Fiji mermaid, a Victorian curiosity or hoax formed from the fore quarters of a monkey stitched to the body of a fish, mounted to a later stand, height 45cm from the base and length 100cm.<p>NB: Feejee mermaids were exhibited in sideshows as curiosities during the 19th Century, most famously by P.T. Barnum at the American Museum of Natural History in 1842. <p>Subject to CITES regulations - as the fore quarters of this lot are formed from a monkey. This lot will require a re-export permit if shipped outside the mainland UK.
