Lot 1013: Sold for £270 hammer

Estimate £100-£150

A set of six Victorian walnut dining chairs, the pierced backs carved in deep relief with floral and foliate detail, upholstered in acanthus patterned damask over carved cabriole front legs, S/D. (6)

Condition report
The chairs have at some point been through a restorer's workshop and have been repolished and re-upholstered. The upholstery and braiding around the edges is in good condition. There are in general some old scuffs and scratches to the frames of the chairs as well as some minor dents. Two of the chairs however display evidence of woodworm and treatment of this for the set of chairs would be beneficial. Specifically condition of the chairs is as follows :- Chair 1 - Old worm flight holes to the rear of the seat rail. Chair 2 - The front leg has been re-glued. Chair 3 - There is a chip out of the join between the front leg and the seat rail. Active woodworm damage to the top of the rear leg that will require treatment and repair. Chair 4 - A small chip out of the carved detail to the frame. A small section of veneer is missing from the rear seat rail. Chair 5 - An old split / break to the top rail that has had a tacked / glued repair. Chair 6 - A small chip to the carved detail of the frame.
