Lot 26 : Estimate £100-£150

Sir Edwin Landseer Lutyens - An early 20th Century advertising enamelled sign, model of a standing archer drawing his bow, some losses, height 56cm. In the early 1930's, Lutyens was approached by the owners of what was considered to be the 'Prettiest Village in England, Cockington' to design an extension of the village in keeping with the existing picturesque thatched cottages. The extension was to include a country inn and shops with living accommodation built around the village green. Whilst the plans were drawn up, mainly due to the start of the Second World War, only the Village Inn was ever built. Lutyens designed a series of enamel signs to indicate what was to be sold within but these signs were never put into place and remaining within the village Forge for some 65 years until they were dispersed.
